Official applications for the position should be submitted to the town clerk.  Candidates will be interviewed by the Park Advisory Board.  The Town notice is provided below:

Please take notice that the Patterson Town Board is seeking interested individuals to fill vacancies on the Putnam Lake Park District Advisory Board. Resumes should be mailed to the Town Clerk's office, P.O. Box 470, Patterson, NY 12563 or faxed 845-878-6343 or emailed to [email protected].

A Successful Boat Removal Day!

11/18/2013

Thank you to all the volunteers who made the Boat Removal Assistance Day a success!

Several crews of volunteers came equipped with trucks and/or trailers to help community residents move their boats to their homes.  The turnout of volunteers and residents was amazing.  Nearly 40 boats were moved.  In addition, trailer loads of garbage were removed from boat storage areas and other areas of the parkland.

All remaining boat owners are reminded to remove their boats by December 1st.  Removal of the boats annually allows for parkland clearing and cleanup around boat storage areas, reduces the amount of abandoned boats that have been historically left on the parkland each year, removes chains annually to prevent choking of healthy trees and ensures only active boats return to the parkland in the spring.

Thanks to all those who helped!

Beach Closures

8/25/2013

August 25, 2013:  Warren & Jackson Beach are closed due to the visual presence of Blue-Green Algae on the water surface.  We will keep you posted if conditions change.

Blue-Green Algae:  The DEC recommends that swimmers and pets should avoid any discolored water that has the appearance of paint, pea soup, streaks or scum on the surface. There is no indication of high risk for swimming in the open water or places where these conditions are not apparent.

You can find out more about harmful algae blooms at the DEC website:http://www.dec.ny.gov/chemical/77118.html and the DOH website athttp://www.health.ny.gov/environmental/water/drinking/bluegreenalgae.htm. This guidance includes the following:

  • There’s no way to tell by looking if the bloom contains toxins or not.  Please use common sense and stay out of water that has the appearance of paint, pea soup, streaks, or scum on the surface. This applies to adults, children and pets.
  • If people or pets are exposed to a bloom, rinse with clean water
  • Don’t drink the water in or near the bloom
  • Anglers should not eat fish caught from areas that look like spilled paint or pea soup
  • The symptoms of blue-green algae bloom exposure are very similar to symptoms from other gastrointestinal illnesses, including vomiting, nausea, diarrhea, skin, eye or throat irritation, allergic reactions or breathing difficulties.  If you believe you have been exposed to a bloom and are experiencing symptoms, seek immediate medical attention.

A Very Successful Clean Up

12/4/2012

Close to 100 volunteers gave their time over the weekend of Dec. 1 to remove garbage and debris from the parkland. Piles and piles of garbage were collected. (Including 67 tires!) Brush and old driftwood was burned to help clean the shoreline and lake bed. Over 25 large trees that had fallen into the lake were removed! Throughout the weekend neighbors, adults and children pitched in to help clean. A great way to start the park district!

This effort has certainly beautified our parkland, but these work hours will also save the Park District money for future clean-up.

THANK YOU VOLUNTEERS!
