Safe Boating Regulations

To ensure safe boating on Putnam Lake, the following regulations must be followed:
  • Boats must be kept in safe, working condition.
  • Boats must not exceed 20ft in length.
  • Gasoline powered boats of any kind are not permitted.
  • Boats must be operated in a safe manner conforming to manufacturer’s instructions, including number of occupants.

New York State Boating Regulations:

Personal Floatation Devices (Life Jackets)
  • All boats require one Type I, II, III or V Personal Floatation Devices for each person onboard.
  • Occupants under 12 years of age must wear a Type I or Type II personal flotation device.
  • Between November 1 and May 1, all persons, regardless of age, must wear an approved personal floatation device.
